Mission and Purpose

Interfaith Children's Movement is a grassroots, child advocacy movement dedicated to improving the well-being of all children in Georgia.

We Believe:

  • Children across Georgia deserve to have hope for a better tomorrow, and it is incumbent upon us, as the interfaith community, to put our faith in action and take a stand on their behalf.
  • Faith communities, working together, can be a powerful force of compassion, commitment and positive change for laws, public policies and services that shape our children's futures.
  • Our work to eliminate social inequities must encompass the total well-being of every child and does not end until we achieve justice for all children.
  • That through our action-oriented, results approach to advocacy, the interfaith community can bring forth a new day where Georgia’s children can grow into their full potential – unrestrained by social and economic barriers.

What We Do:

ICM advocates on behalf of Georgia’s children at the policy and services level by engaging faith communities in calling for justice and servicing the needs of children across Georgia. Our primary methods include:

  • Education - informing and training faith communities and others on what we know about children's issues.
  • Advocacy - appealing to those who can make a difference (faith communities, families, community coalitions, legislators, corporations, etc.)
  • Mobilization – motivating and consulting with faith communities to act, speak up for, and service the needs of children.
  • Networking - connecting faith communities and individuals to information and service programs that can help children and families.
  • Information Resourcing - providing access to materials, data and/or expertise through advocacy organizers, agencies or other means with the goal of increasing the quality and access to programs and initiatives that serve Georgia’s children. 

What We Hope To Achieve:

ICM seeks to create and sustain a network of faith communities statewide that will:

  • become educated about the issues and policies affecting children;
  • become active in advocacy and policy-making processes;
  • establish environments of nurture, education and protection for children; and
  • promote the common good for all children.
