This workshop’s theme: "Islamic Education In the 21st Century and Beyond: COMMIT TO THE CHALLENGE!”
At our last event, 50 people from 20 faith communities actively participated in the initial workshop, "Building an Action Campaign to End Human Trafficking".
It was so well-received that a second session has already been added on Thursday, March 28, 1 - 5 p.m. (Details below). The Interfaith Children's Movement encourages you to be there. The action strategy the group adopted is to "call it like it is" about the buyers of sex from children.
Change the language: It's not "trafficking," it is COMMERCIAL CHILD RAPE!
The men are not "buyers," they are EXPLOITERS. Race/class imbalance drives commercial child rape. The victims usually are poor girls who have experienced serious childhood trauma. The Exploiters usually are white men from North Atlanta with $100,000+ incomes. The lives of these young people will be affected lifelong by continual rape by strangers.
This issue is a matter of social justice.
Six ICM members attended our last workshop: David Marmins, Panke Miller, Joy Borra, Sheila Louder, Linda Bressler and Brenda Smith.
